Dear Staten Island Auto Glass,
I recently was in a small accident. Due to this accident, something flew up towards my auto glass and caused a small crack right in my line of vision. It is quite annoying to deal with while driving, but I just do not have the money to fix it right now. I can still see through and around the crack, but it is slightly annoying to deal with everyday. I was wondering if I am able to leave it there until I have enough money to fix it. I know it is unsafe to drive with a crack right in my line of vision, but I just do not know what else I can do. Is it really that important that I get it fixed immediately, or will I be okay driving around with it there for just a few more weeks? Any information you can give me would be very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to answer my questions.
Dear Impaired Driver,
Having any size crack on your windshield for too long can cause major problems. The fact that this crack is right in your line of vision makes it even a bigger issue. There are many things that can happen due to the crack being there for too long. One of these things is that it may start to grow in size. This can happen for many different reasons. If the crack gets too big, it may not be repairable and you will then need to spend even more money on having your entire windshield replaced.
Since it is in the line of vision, it may actually cause you to get into another accident. You may not think it is blocking your vision too much, but it is probably doing more harm than you realize. There are always little things that you will not be able to see because this crack in your auto glass is in the way.
The most important reason you should get your auto glass fixed though is that it is actually illegal to drive around with a large crack or chip in your line of vision. You could actually be pulled over and receive a ticket for this. This means that not only will you need to pay for your auto glass to be repaired, but you will also need to pay off the ticket you may receive. This ticket could range in value. If you are already short on cash for your auto glass repair, there is no way you will want to worry about finding more money to pay for your ticket.
The easiest thing to do is to try getting it fixed as soon as possible. An auto glass repair is really not that expensive and many auto insurance companies cover repairs completely. You should call your insurance company or see if you could borrow a little money from a good friend so that you are not in danger of hurting yourself, someone else, or getting a ticket.
